US supermajor ExxonMobil has started production at the Damar gas field, off the east coast of Peninsula Malaysia.
ExxonMobil revealed the start-up of the field in an announcement late on Thursday, adding the field had a projected capacity of 200 million cubic feet of gas per day.
Damar was developed under a gas production sharing contract between ExxonMobil and state-run Petronas and the partners have planned a total of 16 development wells for the platform at the offshore field.
“Damar will help meet increasing natural gas demand in Malaysia,” president of ExxonMobil Development Neil W Duffin said.
“It also represents one of several projects that will add to ExxonMobil’s global production in the coming years as we remain focused on delivering profitable volumes over the long term.”
ExxonMobil operates the Damar, holding an equal 50:50 share in the field with Petronas.
