The Association of Malaysian Oil and Gas Engineering Consultants (MOGEC) recently hosted a Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony to officially launch its Pilot Internship Programme (PIP).
An initiative by MOGEC and Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporate, PIP sees Malaysia's top five research universities developing closer links with five major engineering consultancy companies.
The MOU were signed between Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Technip Consultant (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd; Universiti Sains Malaysia and Ranhill-Worley Parsons Sdn Bhd; Universiti Putra Malaysia and RNZ Integrated (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd; University of Malaya and Aker Engineering (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd; and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and MMC Oil and Gas Engineering Sdn Bhd.
The programme is aimed at providing tertiary students with an early exposure to the oil and gas industry.
MOGEC, established in 1999, has about 50 members comprising multinational and local oil and gas engineering companies in Malaysia.
Its president Mohd. Jamin Mohd. Isa says: "This programme is timely (as there is) increasing demand for talents in the oil and gas sector. (Oil and gas) consultants are constantly on the lookout for human resource capital."
The PIP offers a 10-week internship opportunity for selected third-year students from the participating institutions. Additionally, an internship allowance for trainees is borne by the participating companies and assessments will be conducted by the companies' representative at the final stage of each internship period.
